Volumes I, III, IV, and V of eight works on English water colourists published by the Studio library. With thirty two tipped plates, collated and complete. The Studio was an illustrated fine arts and decorative arts magazine that was influential in the development of the Art Nouveau movement, and the Arts and Crafts movements. The magazine was founded and edited by English journalist and art critic Charles Holme, the editor of the present work. This volume contains reproductions of English paintings from the magazine's library. Following an introduction from art critic Frederick Wedmore, Holme provides a commentary on the works pictured, including paintings by John Robert Cozens, Samuel Prout, George Barret, John Constable, Richard Parkes Bonnington, Joseph Mallord William Turner, and John Varley. With instructions to the binder, and the contents of part VIII tucked in loose to volume I. Sticker from stationers 'J. & H. Bell, Ltd. Nottingham' to front cover of each volume. In the publisher's original green paper wraps. Externally, smart. There is a tear in the paper wrap to the front cover of volume I. Some very small closed tears to the edges of the wraps. Internally, generally firmly bound, except for volume III which is a little loose. Aside from the title page in volume I which is a little foxed, pages are bright and clean with the occasional mark.
